On Tuesday, September 20, NTP staff members wore red in support of public transportation and Don't X Out Public Transportation Day. Don’t X Out Public Transportation Day is the combined effort of many transit systems, organizations and advocates across the U.S., including the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), an NTP client. NTP produces APTA's EXPO, coming up October 3-5, 2011 in New Orleans.
Congress has proposed to cut more than one-third of federal funding across the board for public transit and surface transportation programs. If these cuts are implemented, transit riders can expect service delays, fare increases and over-crowding. Rallies were held across the U.S. on September 20 and supporters were asked to wear red to show support for federal funding for public transportation infrastructure.
